ESHA DATTA
Esha Datta is a high soprano. She enjoys singing the range of classical music from baroque to contemporary works. From the canon, Esha has sung Morgana from Handel’s Alcina, Gretel in English and in German from Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi. Esha also enjoys playing wacky characters. In historically informed baroque opera, she performed as Amour in Rameau’s Hippolyte et Aricie with Underworld Opera in Symphony Space. As Titone in Cavalli’s Gli Amori d’Apollo e di Dafne, she sang with the Venice Opera Project in a deconsecrated Renaissance era church singing about age, despair, and lost love among art painted by Titian. Esha likes singing contemporary works about contemporary issues as well. She sang as senator Chuck Grassley in Melissa Dunphy’s The Gonzales Cantata with the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, questioned the nature of opera/spoken word with Perfect Lives: New Jersey with Con Vivo music, and sang in chamber operas with Rhymes with Opera: Pocket Opera Worksop, their summer workshop which fostered collaboration with singers and composers.
